Leg in cast in wheelchair

Pre & Post - Operative

Pre-operative – time from when decision for surgical intervention is decided until surgery day. Pre-operative rehabilitation (prehab) optimises your physical condition and ensures the maintenance of function before, during, and after surgery.

Post-operative – when surgery is completed, and recovery begins. Upon clearance from your doctor, it is crucial for your rehabilitation to start so that there is no delay in restoring your body to pre-injury abilities.

Benefits of Prehab

  • Prepares you for surgery
  • Prevents muscle wasting
  • Enhances quality of movement and maintains function
  • Corrects joint alignment, range of movement, and muscle length
  • Enhances core stability, muscle strength, power and endurance
  • Enhances neuromuscular/proprioceptive control

Your physiotherapist will work closely with your doctor from the start to understand the surgery process underwent by you. Often, there will be specific instructions from your doctor that need to be followed to safeguard the healing process. Appropriate evidence-based post-operative protocols may then be implemented throughout your rehabilitation.

Your physiotherapist will work with you to formulate a treatment plan that is specific, measurable, realistic, and yet result-oriented to help you achieve your rehabilitation goals.
